Monte Cristo Sandwich

A bold twist on a classic favorite — layers of smoked ham and melty cheese between golden-fried, lightly battered bread. Dusted with powdered sugar and served with a side of Heritage Harvest Raspberry Peach Chipotle Sauce for the perfect balance of savory, sweet, and a little heat.

 

INGREDIENTS

• 4 slices white bread (or brioche, or sandwich bread)

• 2 slices ham (deli-style or cooked ham)

• 2 slices Swiss cheese (or use cheddar, provolone, or your favorite cheese)

• 1 egg

• 1/4 cup milk

• 1 tablespoon butter (for frying)

• Pinch of salt

• Powdered sugar (for topping)

• Heritage Harvest Raspberry Peach Chipotle Sauce

 

INSTRUCTIONS

 

1. Assemble the sandwich:

Place 1 slice of ham and 1 slice of cheese between two slices of bread to make a sandwich. Repeat if making more than one.

 

2. Make the egg batter:

In a bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and a pinch of salt.

 

3. Dip the sandwich:

Dip the sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides like French toast.

 

4. Cook the sandwich:

Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the sandwich for about 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.

 

5. Finish and serve:

Transfer to a plate, sprinkle generously with powdered sugar, and serve warm. Add jam on the side for dipping if desired.
