Korean BBQ Short Ribs

This popular Korean dish, also known as galbi, is made with beef short ribs that are marinated in a delicious blend of brown sugar, soy sauce, mirin, and other flavorful ingredients. Korean BBQ Short Ribs


  • 5lbs Korean style beef short ribs – SGC# 215262 
  • 1cup brown sugar, packed – SGC# 051964 
  • 1c soy sauce – SGC# 087811 
  • ½ c water 
  • ¼ c mirin – SGC# 563805 
  • 1ea onion, peeled and finely grate – SGC# 191966 
  • 1small pear, peeled and grated – SGC# 197673 
  • 4 tbsp Restaurant Marketplace minced garlic – SGC# 191566 
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil – SGC# 674306 
  • ¼ tsp black pepper – SGC# 169540 
  • 2ea green onions, thinly sliced  – SGC# 192014 



  1. Sprinkle brown sugar over beef and mix well to evenly coat. Let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes while preparing marinade.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients. Transfer beef into a large sealable freezer bag (you may need 2).
  3. Add marinade, press out excess air from bags, and seal. Turn bag over several times to ensure beef is evenly coated. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours but preferably overnight.
  4. Heat gas or charcoal grill to medium-hot. Drain excess marinade off beef.
  5. Grill short ribs, turning once, to desired doneness, about 3 to 4 minutes per side.
  6. Garnish with thinly sliced green onions, if desired.
  7. Serve whole pieces as a main course or cut into smaller pieces, using kitchen shears, for a starter or party nibble.
